Helping Schools with Music Education Resources

Hello and welcome to this May edition of the Fun Music Company Newsletter.

This month I would like to personally thank all of you who participated in our facebook sharing campaign we held during a recent weekend. It was wonderful to see that around 150 people got behind the cause and I'm happy to announce, that as a result of the campaign, we were able to fully fund a listening project which will enable a needy school in Oklahoma to get access to a listening centre which will allow up to 8 students at a time to listen and review classical music.

Here at the Fun Music company, we hope this will be the first of many such projects we'll be able to fund to help schools get resources for music education. Click here to view the lovely letter of gratitude sent to us and further details on how we can continue to fund music resources in disadvantaged schools.

With our latest new project the History Of Rock and Roll well in the 'pipeline' now and still in it's finishing stages this month, a question came up of what to include, and what not to include when teaching this topic in the classroom. My blog post has received some great comments from music educators both on our Facebook Fun Music Company Page and at the Music Teachers blog. I would love you to join in the discussion and give us some feedback on your thoughts so we continue to provide you with fully useable materials that don't need constant censorship.

This month we've also continued to participate in the Music Education Twitter Chat, where we chat to some great names in music education on pressing music education topics. This month we've covered subjects like "What's the Most Important Topic To Teach In The Classroom" and "Classroom Management in Music Lessons".

If you would like to get involved in this fun, informative yet casual session with like minded people who all share a passion for music education, just have a look at my guide to the music education twitter chat.

If there is anything we can do to help you in music education feel free to contact me through facebook, twitter or my direct email janice@funmusicco.com

Can you Help in our discussion forums?
One of the greatest things we can do is help each other out! Check out some of the great advice and contribute on our facebook page on topics like "Getting the attention of pre-primary students" and "Good Vocal Warmups for Choirs". There is lots of great info already there, and lets see if we can make it an even better forum for the sharing of music teaching ideas.

How we can continue funding more schools
Information about how we can continue funding important projects "on the ground" in the schools. If you continue to spread the word about our products and services, we can put back into the schools through donorschoose.org

What should you leave out when teaching rock history?
Teaching about Rock and Roll, Punk, Heavy Metal and Thrash music? Do you censor talking about drugs, alcohol or the habits of these musicians? Do you censor any artists completely? We'd love your opinion!

Singing Resources for Primary School
Information and a great video about a program out of the UK designed to get children singing in the classroom.

Classroom Management for the music teacher
My summary of one of the twitter chats where we discussed this important topic. This article includes some real gems that teachers shared.
